Let’s Sow the Region of Peace: Accadia Hosts the 7th March for Peace and Nonviolence

In the Framework of Gandhi Jayanti

Accadia, Italy – 30 September 2025 – The town of Accadia has proudly hosted the 7th Itinerant March for Peace and Nonviolence, launching a groundbreaking initiative: the creation of a Region of Peace, envisioned as the first “War-Free Zone” in Southern Italy.

A Bold Vision for Peace

This ambitious project unites municipalities from Monti Dauni, Sannio, and Alta Irpinia in a shared commitment to peace-driven development. The initiative seeks to:

  • Promote a self-sustainable local economy
  • Establish a territory-wide School of Peace
  • Convert areas of military production and conflict into centers for culture, coexistence, and sustainable growth

Years of Peace Education Bearing Fruit

The March reflects years of peace education by the Comprehensive Institute “Martin Luther King” of Accadia (UNESCO-affiliated), in collaboration with:

  • The Gandhi Center of Pisa
  • Local municipalities
  • International partners such as OraWorldMandala (Mexico) and the Global Gandhi Network

A Day of Symbolism and Unity

One of the most powerful moments of the March was the creation of a seed mandala, where representatives from different municipalities symbolically contributed seeds to represent unity and regeneration.

The day concluded with the launch of the Manifesto for the Region of Peace, inviting mayors—present and future—to formally endorse this vision of a sustainable, war-free territory.

Inspired by Gandhi’s Philosophy

This movement draws inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence, affirming that true development comes through peace, justice, and solidarity.

With Accadia’s leadership, Southern Italy takes a historic step toward building not only a region of peace, but also a living example of Gandhi’s timeless vision of a nonviolent future.
